UNICEF MEULABOH is looking for the following consultant according to the terms of reference below:
TITLE: Malaria Consultant SECTION: Health & Nutrititon DUTY STATION: Meulaboh
Background & Purpose:
The deteriorating effects of malaria infection during pregnancy in both maternal and infant, as well as children under five year of age are caused mostly by Plasmodium falciparum. In areas of epidemic and low (unstable) malaria transmission, pregnant women with no immunity are at risk for dying from severe malarial disease and/or for spontaneous abortion, premature delivery or stillbirth. A Malaria Consultant would be greatly benefiting the programme to ensure malaria control project continuation in West Coast of Aceh. In order to achieve the eradication of malaria in pregnant women, the Malaria Consultant will assist DHO of Aceh Barat Daya to implement the project through facilitating trainings for midwives and nurses on the updated prevention and treatment of malaria so that health facilities in targeted areas are better able in providing services to pregnant women; as well as conducting screening in their first ANC visit and managing standard services whenever malaria is proven positive. The Malaria Consultant will also ensure the continuation of Bed Net Utilisation and Ownership Monitoring activities in Singkil district and in addition, to facilitate DHO Aceh Barat strengthen health officers’ capacity in the management of warehousing and logistics of malaria supplies.
Major Tasks To Be Accomplished:
Facilitate DHO of ABDYA to train health workers (50 village midwives and nurses) in screening and managing malaria in pregnancy as well as ensure at least 70% total of pregnant mother s in selected areas are screen with malaria test and treated with adequate services in health facility
Assist DHO of Aceh Barat in organizing the Workshop on Management of Warehouse and Logistic system to the 15 Malaria officer within 7 districts in West Coast
Ensure the implementation activity of Monitoring Ownership and Usage of Bed nets in Singkil District.
Produce and maintain a database on malaria intervention activities as well as assist counterparts in preparing activity and financial reports.
Qualification & Experience required:
Educational Background: Advanced degree in medicine or university degree in public health, diploma in midwifery or nursing Minimum 3 years of progressive provincial and district level experience in health in particularly Malaria intervention related areas. Experience in clinical practice, capacity building, promotion, preferably working with implementation and monitoring, technical supports, and trainings. Understanding of local government policies, guidelines, legislation, and strategies on health and nutrition developments is a must Excellent communication and negotiation skills; Fluency (oral and written) in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required. Acehnese is a preferable Ability to write report and concept, Knowledge of computer management skills, including EPI info, excel, internet navigation and various office applications.
