Job Vacancy Position open: Public Health Engineer

The Public Health Engineer job exists for the purpose of training a local manager to sustain our environmental service program. Focus is on service work with Indonesian scavenger communities’, specifically project assessment, design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting. Duties will include working with pursuing and executing grant opportunities to aid underserved communities. YE Water Program is accepting applications from qualified individuals interested in joining our small but growing organization to work to aid disadvantaged Indonesians in need. The focus of the YE Water Program is on service work with Indonesian scavenger communities, currently those in Jakarta. Our goals are to:
• Improve the living conditions of the poor by establishing replicable water & sanitation solutions that advance achievement of UN Millennium Development Goals.
• Promote public health & hygiene through constructive environmental education activities.
• Empower communities to directly combat their environmental issues through household-scale solutions.
• Advocate global awareness about the importance of water health by providing documentation of our community service projects to the international community.

We currently operate 4 programs:

Public Health Promotion Program;
Clean Water Program;
Improved Sanitation Program; and
Flood Emergency Management Program.

Job Description
Report to: Mindy Weimer, YE Water Program Coordinator Start date: 1 April 2008 (flexible)
Salary: Maximum Rp. 3.500.000 (3 month probation period with Rp. 2.700.000 salary)
Work hours: 08:00 – 15:30, Monday – Saturday (With 2 more days off every month)
Base location: Jakarta (Pondok Indah)

This job entails a wide variety of tasks inclusive, but not limited to:
- conducting awareness activities with local communities
- gathering community information and related survey data
- liaison with government to foster increased water supplies to communities
- documenting site assessments and weekly report updates
- researching appropriate technologies, environmental impacts & statistics
- design clean water access and sanitation improvement project (rainwater collection system, sand filtration, ceramic filtration, chlorination and SODIS)
- mobilize community to improve access to clean water and to improve sanitation
- Coordinate visit schedules with Public Health Promoter to deliver key messages and services at the same time to both adults and children in the community
- assisting with project management and design feedback
- water quality testing and analysis
- implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects
- respond quickly to the Public Health Engineering requirements of an emergency
- any other reasonable request from the Program Coordinator

Person Specifications
The following criteria describe the preferred applicant qualifications:
- minimum of S1 degree in Environmental Engineering
- proficient in English and Bahasa Indonesia
- previous community motivation and development experience
- commendable initiative, independence, integrity, and reliability
- creative thinker and strong communicator
- proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet
- flexible schedule and able to travel
- knowledgeable of Indonesian government logistics
- understanding and sensitivity of social and cultural diversities
