World Agroforestry Centre – SEA Regional Office Recruiting a LANDSCAPE HYDROLOGIST Based in Bogor, Indonesia. The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) is one of a network of 15 Future Harvest Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). As a global leader in agroforestry research and development, ICRAF’s ultimate purpose is to improve human welfare by reducing poverty, increasing cash income, improving food and nutritional security, and increasing environmental resilience through improved agroforestry systems. ICRAF has it’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya and works in 21 countries throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America.
In 1993, the World Agroforestry Centre opened a program for Southeast Asia with Bogor, in Indonesia, as its regional headquarters. We currently work in five Southeast Asian countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and China. The Position ICRAF is implementing a project on "Trees in multi-Use Landscapes in Southeast Asia (TUL-SEA): A negotiation support toolbox for Integrated Natural Resource Management" that aims to sharpen the tools for problem appraisal to be used in mainstream development processes, identify targets for academic follow-up research, involve NARS and contribute directly to negotiated solutions for important tradeoffs. It involves partners across SE Asia, with training courses and support of local application of a series of appraisal tools ICRAF developed including the Rapid Hydrological Appraisal method. Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks: · Implement Rapid Hydrological Appraisals based on local, public and modelers knowledge. · Develop and maintain a watershed model that allows analysis of consequences of land use change · Develop interfaces linking existing model with spatial data.
· Contribute to capacity building for national partners in land use and watershed management Qualifications and Skills Required: · Familiarity through university study and work experience with Integrated Natural Resource Management approaches including hydrology, agro-meteorology 3-4 years work experience · Experience with process-based models of the rainfall-soil-plant-atmosphere continuum · Experience in GIS and or Spatial Analysis · Good English communication skills: correspondence with project partners, newsletter contributions · Experience with and affinity for international and inter-cultural cooperation · Excellent capability to work under limited supervision · Computer and internet literate Terms of offer This is a Nationally Professional Fixed Term position with a competitive salary and benefits package. The contract is for a period of one year, with possibility of renewal, subject to assessment of performance, and availability of resources.
